Vitamic C - Antioxidant Serum

Vitamin C is a very effective antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals - unstable molecules that cause skin aging due to pollution, smoking and sun exposure. It inhibits melanin, stimulates the growth of the hydrolipidic film and enhances the synthesis of collagen, an important skin protein that enhances the structural support and elasticity of the skin.

Ascorbic acid is one of the main non-enzymatic water-soluble antioxidants. Vitamin C is essential for the synthesis of collagen, an important structural component of blood vessels, tendons, ligaments and bones.

In addition, vitamin C is needed for the synthesis of carnitine, a small molecule that is needed to transport fat to organelles called mitochondria for conversion into energy.

It plays an important role in the structure of the dermis by stimulating the synthesis of collagen by the fibroblasts of the dermis. This is believed to occur as a result of ascorbate directly stimulating collagen synthesis by directly and specifically activating collagen gene regulation by both increasing the transcription rate and stabilizing the procollagen messenger RNA, thereby genetically signaling collagen synthesis. Another mechanism is the initiation of lipid peroxidation, which leads to an increase in a by-product that stimulates collagen gene expression.

In addition, ascorbic acid is necessary for the formation of lysyl hydroxylase, an enzyme necessary to cross-link one collagen molecule with another, providing tissue strength.

The topical use of ascorbic acid prevents and treats photoaging. Exposure to ultraviolet radiation depletes up to two-thirds of the skin's stores of ascorbic acid.
